*Obituary

Alice Kahl Walter, a much loved mother, grandmother and friend, died at Conway Regional Medical Center on June 12, 2013, at the age of 93, after a brief illness.
She was born in Vandergrift, Pa., on Jan. 11, 1920, to the late John C. and Margaret Gagen Kahl.
She graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1938, and completed two years of postsecondary education at the Fairmont School and Junior College in Washington, D.C. In 1957, she married Alexis A. Walter, Jr. in Houston, Texas. Alice and Alexis had one child, a son Alexis A. Walter, III, whom she nicknamed "Tripp". Alice, "Bussy" to her family, held many administrative support and office manager positions over the years, with companies such as United States Steel in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Roper Appliances, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Bayou Bay Construction Company in Houston, Texas. In the 1970s, she worked in apartment management for Old World Properties in Houston. In 2003, she relocated from Houston, after almost 50 years of residing there, to be near her son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Conway. After her husband's sudden passing in 1968, Alice gave completely of herself to create the best life possible for her young son and her mother. She was a person of deep and unshakable faith, who, even when beset by serious physical problems, always had time to listen to and help anyone that she could.
She was predeceased by her aforementioned parents; her beloved siblings: brother, Richard C. Kahl of Youngstown, N.Y., and sister, Margaret (Marky) Kahl Elrick of Conway.
Alice is survived by her son, Tripp; daughter-in-law, Kim Thomas Walter; and beloved grandson, John Thomas Walter, all of Conway; nieces, Judy Bennett (Bill) of Clearwater, Fla., and Les Kahl of Youngstown, N.Y.; nephews, Charles Elrick of Venice, Fla., and David Kahl of Youngstown, N.Y.; and sister-in-law, Beverley Kahl of Youngstown, N.Y.
The family would like to thank Alice's devoted friends and Eucharistic Ministers from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway; her dedicated caregivers from Home Instead; Heritage Living Center; Conway Regional Medical Center; and the many friends and medical professionals who gave of themselves to preserve and protect Alice's dignity and quality of life in her new hometown of Conway.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway, with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Columbarium.
Anyone wishing to make memorial gifts in Alice's memory may do so to Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, 8900 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX 77036 or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1115 College Ave., Conway, AR 72032.
