After a 12-year battle with Cancer, Betty Sue King Welch went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 4, 2007. She fought courageously and taught everyone she met to keep a good attitude and be happy. She was born April 30,1931, to Chester T. and Beulah Clibourn King in Conway, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her father, C.T. King, Sr,; mother, Beulah King; and brother, Chester T. King, Jr.
Betty leaves behind her loving husband of 58 years, John T. (Tom) Welch; children, John C. Welch of Conway, Phyllis I. Dacus and husband Richard of Greenbrier, and Susan F. Swan and husband Lewis of Conway; grandchildren, Natalie Holley and husband Tre of North Little Rock, Amanda Welch and boyfriend Jonathan Severs of Conway, Julie Turner and husband Brad of Greenbrier, Joshua Swan of Conway, and David Welch of Johnson City, TN; great-grandson, Peyton Turner, of Greenbrier; sister, Lois L. King McDonald and husband Charles of Conway; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
She was Co-Owner of King Hardware with her husband Tom from 1971 until 1984.
She was an active member of the Greenbrier United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Certified Lay Speaker, various committees and boards, and was a life member of the W.S.C.S. (now United Methodist Women). The Young Adult Class honored her by naming their class The Betty Welch Class. She was a sponsor of the M.Y. F. (Now United Methodist Youth).
She was a Life Member of the P.T.A. and a Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Leader. Betty worked with several support groups in Faulkner County as an advocate for cancer awareness, prevention and support.
Honorary Pallbearers are, Natalie Holley, Tre Holley, Amanda Welch, Jonathan Severs, Julie Turner, Brad Turner, Joshua Swan, David Welch, and Peyton Turner.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at the Greenbrier United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 7, 2007 with the Reverend John Farthing officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the United Methodist Churches in Greenbrier or Conway, or the Cancer Hematology Outpatient Clinic at Conway Regional Hospital.

John Thomas (Tom) Welch, 83 of Conway went to be with his Lord and his wife of 58 years, Betty. Born on February 28, 1926, he was a son to the late John Thomas (Red) and Florence Dovie Lackie Welch. A sister Anne Gibson and a brother James Welch also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, John C. Welch, Phyllis I. Dacus and husband Richard, Susan F. Swan and husband Lewis; grandchildren, Natalie Holley and husband Tre, Amanda Severs and husband Jonathan, Julie Turner and husband Brad, Josh Swan, and David Welch, and great grandson, Peyton Turner.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway for many years and was presently a member of First United Methodist Church in Greenbrier. He served as a member of several boards and committees at both churches. Tom was a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps and served in occupied Japan after Word War II. He retired from the Veterans Administration, where he was a Corrective Therapist. He was a member of the 1947 National Champions ASTC Bears football tem. And was a member of the Arkansas State Swimming Hall of Fame and the Hendrix Hall of Honor. Tom and wife Betty were co-owners of King Hardware, in Conway, from 1971 to 1984. He has a BSE from Arkansas State Teachers College and a MSE from State College of Arkansas. He served on the Conway Corporation Board of Directors and was a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 71 of Conway, a Vigil Honor Scout, Quapaw Lodge Advisor, Foothills District Chairman, and was awarded the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver and Wood Badge Beads.


A memorial service and celebration of his life will be at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, June 5, at the Greenbrier First United Methodist Church, with Reverend John Farthing and Reverend Charles McDonald officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Natalie and Tre Holley, Jonathan and Amanda Severs, Julie and Brad Turner, Josh Swan, David Welch and Peyton Turner and the 1947 Arkansas State Teachers College National Championship Bears Football team. A gathering of remembrance will be on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
