Heather Glidewell McDonald, 58, a graduate of Rogers (Ark.) High School and Hendrix College in Conway, died Jan. 14, 2012, at her home in Memphis, Tenn., after a three and a half year struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Born Feb. 25, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, to W.E. and Muriel Olsen Glidewell, she enjoyed running, dancing, gardening and a variety of family activities through the years.
After graduating from Rogers in 1971 and Hendrix in 1975, she taught for more than 10 years at St. Joseph Elementary School in Conway and Plumerville (Ark.) Elementary School.
She moved with her family to Memphis in 1993, when her husband entered his medical residency there. She became a docent of the Memphis Zoo in the mid-1990s and taught part-time for seven years in the zoo's education department. In May 2002, she became a medical billing specialist for her husband's private practice in West Memphis.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Muriel Olsen Glidewell.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Donald L. McDonald of Memphis; daughters, Rebecca McDonald of Memphis and Megan McPeek of Platteville, Wis.; son-in-law, Jamie McPeek, also of Platteville; granddaughter, Alana Nash; and adopted grandchildren, Jayde Nash and Lydia Barnat; father and stepmother, W.E. "Rocky" and Dixie Lou Glidewell of Bentonville; a brother, Gary Hunter Glidewell of Fayetteville; her parents-in-law, Charles and Lois McDonald of Conway; nine brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David McDonald of Little Rock, Ron McDonald and Susan Penn of Memphis, Tom and Junko McDonald of Las Vegas, N.M., Jim and Cathy McDonald of Mountain Home, and Mark and Kelley McDonald of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1738 Galloway Ave., Memphis, Tenn. 38112.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memphis Zoo, Trinity United Methodist Church in Memphis, Heifer Project International, Mount Eagle Christian Center or the American Cancer Society.
