Mrs. Betty Ruth Maxwell, 72, of Hamburg died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mrs. Maxwell was a native and life long resident of Ashley County and Hamburg. She retired from the Ashley County Health Unit after 34 years where she held the title of Clerical Supervisor for the Hamburg and Crossett Units. She was an excellent employee who was respected by all of her fellow employees for her management abilities in this area and her willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done. She was a rather quiet person who took her obligations to her family and others very seriously and helped those in dire need in a no fan-fare, non-judgmental way. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing good ole country meals for her family and especially enjoyed canning pickles for her three granddaughters who were her pride and joy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by two sons, infant Russell Scott Maxwell in 1954 and David R. Maxwell in 2001; her parents, Aubrey & Trudy Wigley Scott and a brother, James "Jim" Scott. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Mr. John Henry Maxwell of Hamburg; a daughter, Sissy McRae and husband, Craig, of Monticello; a brother, Louis Scott and wife, Cindy, of Crossett; two sisters, Martha Kelley and husband, Willie Claude, of Hamburg and Edith Phillips and husband, Millard, of Crossett; three grandchildren, Meghan Scogin and husband, Trent, Britney and Ashlen McRae all of Monticello and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers are Kent McRae, Chris Kelley, Russell Maxwell, Willie Claude Kelley, Jimmy Murphy and Willard Noble.
