Frances Caroline Smith LaFace, of Conway, who created heaven on earth for family and friends, died Sunday morning March 21 at Conway Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Frances was born February 16, 1934 in Ada, Oklahoma, to her beloved parents Captain John Smith and Fawn Eleanor Bevers.
Frances was a 1948 graduate of Allendale (IL) High School and a 1952 Graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana. Frances was a housewife and Mother, but also worked as an airline stewardess, travel representative in Austin, Texas and as a Travel Consultant with Irish Airlines in Dallas.
Survivors include her husband Joseph, daughters Fawn Gabrielle Geels, Heather Caroline LaFace, son-in-law Michael Anthony Geels, grandchildren Joseph Anthony (deceased), Caroline Gabrielle, Laura Jane, and Andrew Houston. Siblings include Don H. Smith of Carrollton, TX; Doris Jane Smith McFarland of Allendale, IL; and John H. Smith of Plainview, NE.
Frances was an active member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent of the Cadron Post Chapter, terms 2008 2010. Through the DAR, she formed a bond of affection and a shared passion for history and tradition with all her fellow members. Frances was descended from 21 patriots of the American War for Independence, including Weaver Barnes, MD; Henry Brumback, VA; John Clack, VA; Thomas Hill, NC; Henry Holiday, NC; John Maddox, VA; Thomas Miles, CT; Daniel Pratt, CT; and James Speed, VA.
Frances also served on the Altar Guild of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Arkansas Country Dance Society. The Dance Society, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and the DAR were a great source of joy and friendship. Indeed, all of Frances' family and friendships, from her birthplace to Texas, Arkansas and beyond, were an enduring source of joy. The only thing that exceeded her abundance of friends was her abundance of hats. Frances loved to cook from scratch and loved to make things grow.
She traveled to many countries from Japan to Europe, and especially loved the English Country Dance tours in England with her husband, Joseph.
The Eucharistic service will be held in celebration of her life on Wednesday March 24th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Conway, AR.
Donations to the Food Pantry at St. Peter's Episcopal Church are preferred to flowers.
