Dr. James Austin Rollins, age 79, of Conway passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011. He was born September 16, 1931. Memorial Service will be held in Conway, Thursday, July 28th at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 925 Mitchell St, Conway, AR.
Dr. Rollins grew up in Swifton, Arkansas and graduated from Swifton High School in 1949. He was an exceptional student in several disciplines including Mathematics a competence that often served him well in his research and graduate level courses in the Social Sciences at the College and University levels. His academic background included Valedictorian of Swifton High School and a 4.0 GPA. His address to parents and students that evening on June 24, 1949 was the "Sky's the Limit."
Dr. Rollins was a Psychologist and University Undergraduate and Graduate Professor. He held a Doctorate from Boston University, a Master's Degree in History from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor's Degree in Botany also from the University of Arkansas. Born in the Ozark Mountains in his Grandfather's hospital, he lived and worked in Panama, California, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Colorado and Arkansas (Conway). In his later years he acquired the skills of Landscaping, and Gardening. He shared his life with family, including his daughter, Dawn, granddaughter Maggie and a feline family that provided daily companionship as well as many close friends.
Dr. Rollins was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Nanette Patchell Rollins, parents James S. Rollins and Virginia Smith Rollins Seeger, two brothers, Jimbo and Tom Rollins, beloved uncle Joseph W. Smith, grandparents Austin Flint and Lela Toler Smith, Dr. William James and Ada Russell Rollins, great aunt's Zoe Ellis, Catherine Coe and Claudia Taylor, and great uncle Dr. Raymond Toler.
Survivors include a daughter, Dawn Rollins Risk, granddaughter Maggie M. Risk, brother Bill Rollins, niece Kim Rollins Uzee, nephews Billy and Brett (Wendy) Rollins, beloved aunt Mary Jane Allen Smith, sister-cousin Mary Coe Sanders (Sam), loving cousins Joe and Angela Coe, cousin Ray Toler Jr., and numerous other much loved relatives in Arkansas, Alabama and Missouri.
