Mrs. Joyce Johnson Cason, 74, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999, of complications from open heart surgery at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Mrs. Cason was a native of Fountain Hill, born June 11, 1924, to the late Almie Rosen and Lelia Watkins Johnson. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elijah Grant Johnson, who lost his life in Korea in 1950. She was a legal secretary for many years in Tulsa, OK,. before moving to Washington, D.C. where she lived for 20 years. She retired to Arkansas from the deputy attorney general's office in the Department of Justice. She is survived by a son, Larry Jack Cason; a niece, Carolyn Johnson Luce; a grandnephew, Blakley Grant Luce. all of Fort Smith; and a cousin, Nancy Foote Spivey of Hamburg. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, February 19, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. John Shafer officiating. Pallbearers were Blake Luce, Darren Cason, Phil Couey, John Spivey, Dr. William Foote, and Mitchell Wood. Interment followed services at the Flat Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Flat Creek Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Sterling White, 140 Hwy 160, Fountain Hill, Ark. 71642.
