Calvin C. “Dan” Ellison, 85, of Walnut Ridge, passed from this life on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Flo & Phil Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born, November 26, 1937, to the late Clay Ellison and Fannie (Stoner) Ellison. He was united in marriage to Yvonne “Y” Davis on December 21, 1957, in Rockford, Illinois. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

Dan was a police officer at the Memphis Police department from 1961-1995. He rose through the ranks retiring as a captain. After retiring, Dan and Y moved back home to Walnut Ridge. After 10 years of retirement, he was elected as sheriff of Lawrence County serving for three terms. While in law enforcement, he attended many schools and seminars including the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Before Dan’s passing, making a difference in something or someone was his hope.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Keith Davis Ellison, his parents, as well as 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana Ellison Osborn (Robert) of Lexington, Tennessee; grandchildren, Matthew Ellison Osborn and Bailey Ellison; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2023, from 12 p.m. until 1.p.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Latham, Jr. Briner, Dennis Coggins, and J.R. Cox.

And his wife,
Mrs. Dan Ellison, age 82, (Yvonne Davis Ellison), better known as “Y” to her family and friends, passed from this life at her residence on June 22, 2019 with her family at her side. She was born to C.H. “Peck” and Madge Forrester Davis on April 8, 1937 in Lawrence County. In December 1957 she married Dan Ellison in Rockford, Illinois. Y graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1955. She lived in Memphis, Tennessee prior to returning to Walnut Ridge. She served her church and community in many ways. She delivered Meals on Wheels and kept records for Lawrence Memorial Cemetery for many years. Y was a talented seamstress and loved decorating.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Dan, of the home; a son, Keith Ellison of Walnut Ridge; a daughter Dana Osburn (Robert) of Somerville, TN; a grandson, Matt Osburn of Somerville, Tennessee; a granddaughter, Bailey Ellison of Walnut Ridge; sisters, Mona Hicks and Sue Hancock of Walnut Ridge; a brother, Ronald Davis (Amy) of Germantown, Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Norma Davis, Wanda Davis and Vada Davis, all of Walnut Ridge.

Funeral services held June 26, 2019 at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge with Jake Guenrich as officiate.
