Mrs. Dorothy “Ree” Horton, 94, of Monticello, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. Mrs. Horton was born August 26, 1915 in Fountain Hill. She was a resident of Monticello for the past 10 years and a life long resident of Hamburg and Fountain Hill. She graduated from Fountain Hill High School and Monticello A&M College. She began her teaching career in Fountain Hill Elementary School and then taught in Hamburg Public Schools for over 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg and currently a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Rison. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray & Bettie Bankston Boyd and two sisters, Bernice Nutt and Blanche Shelton. She is survived by a son, Ray Gene Horton and wife, Claudia Stinson Horton, of Monticello; two granddaughters, Gina Horton Lawrence and husband, Johnathon, of Beebe and Jennifer Horton of Monticello; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Nataleigh and Haven and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her special caregiver of four years, Gayle Knight of Monticello. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Peddy, Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Tony Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ben Carpenter, Roger Nutt, Jr., Richard Weatherly, Johnathon Lawrence, Larry Nutt and Wayland Stinson.
