Ruby Irene Sloan, age 88, of Camden, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at the Heritage Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs. Ruby was born August 27, 1931, in Harrell, AR to Doyle and Tenalia Porter Ables. She married Billy T. Sloan on November 10, 1947 and he preceeded her in death February 12, 2011. Ruby worked at the same job for many years starting at ITT, Stromberg Carlson and retired from General Dynamics. She was the oldest active member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She loved her church and family where she was well known for her delicious coconut cake. Her grandchildren all lived in the same neighborhood and loved to visit with Mamaw. She always found time to visit with them.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Tenalia Ables; husband, Billy T. Sloan; brother, Ralph Ables and a sister, Jane Fry.
Surviving family members, Brother, Edward Ables of Eugene, Oregon; sisters, Pauline Smith of Pine Bluff, AR and Erma Johnson of Printess, MS; son, Wayne Sloan of Hot Springs, AR; daughters, Karen Sharp of Camden, AR, Nancy Brown of Hot Springs; grandsons, Chris Harrison, Arthur Stokenbury, Curtis Sharp, Chad Sloan; granddaughters, Gretchen Keith, Starla Sloan, Tracy Ray; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Proctor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
