Mar 4, 1918 - Jan 4, 2015

Helaine Monica Miller Brown, age 96, died peacefully in her home on January 4, 2015, after a long and bountiful life. Born in Chicago, IL on March 4, 1918, Helaine and her older sister, Zoe, grew to be best friends and confidants. The sisters separated from their family in their teens and supported each other in their early years. In April of 1947, Helaine married James M. Brown, a handsome young engineering student at the University of Cincinnati, whom she promised ?to love, honor, and follow? instead of ?obey? ?little knowing that their lives together of 66 years would include many relocations as his career advanced. A dedicated and loving mother, Helaine gave birth to 6 children in 9 years, taking in stride the responsibilities of nurturing and encouraging each of her children to fulfill their potential. In later years, she served as a deacon of the Union Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at the Newburgh, NY, Day Nursery, and an active member of P.E.O., a women?s philanthropic educational organization. Helaine is survived by her son, James M. Brown, Jr. and wife, Carol, of Little Rock, AR; her daughter, Floy Kaminski and husband, Amos, of New York, NY; her son, Donald K. Brown and wife, Marci, of Austin, TX,; her son, Alan C. Brown of Albuquerque, NM; and her daughter, Helaine Borge and husband, Pat, of Kihei, Maui; as well as 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, with another on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her sister, Zoe, her daughter, Zoe, and a great grandson, Tristan. The legacy of her love will be felt for generations to come.
