Washington “Shorty” Humphrey, Sr., 89, of Dermott,
Arkansas passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019. He was
born in Alexandria, Louisiana on November 26, 1929 to the late James and Matilda Jackson Humphrey. Shorty worked for Downey Funeral Home for over 30 years. He helped facilitate the Rural Water Association for Hurds, AR. He was recognized by Congressman Jay Dickey for his efforts.
Shorty also enjoyed sponsoring fish fry’s for the community for 20 years. He loved to grow flowers and work in his garden.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vernestine Simpson Humphrey; son, Washington Humphrey, Jr.; daughters, Berlin V. Smith and Linda Fay Humphrey; grandson, Tyron Fernando Humphrey. Survivors include his sons, Willie Earl (Bobbie) Humphrey of Little Rock, AR and Joseph Lee
Humphrey of Dermott, AR; daughter, Ruby Jewel (Rev. Henry) Dickerson of Dermott, AR; loving daughter in-law, Ella Humphrey; sister, Mabell Beasley of
Detroit, MI; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Halley, AR with Rev. Henry Dickerson
officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery. A special “Thank You” to Hospice Care Ministries of Monticello. AR.
