Shirley Dee Maxwell, age 87, of Little Rock, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003. Born in McRae, Arkansas February 27, 1916, she was the daughter of Roxie Dura and Paul A. Drake. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and friends will cherish their memories of her witty sense of humor and compassion for others.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Otis Maxwell, and her daughter Paula Dee Maxwell Hubbard. She is survived by her two grandsons Alan Hubbard and his wife Jan; John Paul Hubbard and his wife Anna; three great-grandchildren Alex, Max, and Hannah; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Shirley retired as secretary from the U. S. Army Little Rock District Recruiting Command. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She earned an associates degree in music from the University of New Mexico. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, U. S. Civil Service Commission, and American Legion Auxiliary.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Tuesday June 24, 2003 at 10:00 am with interment to follow in the columbarium. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, or your favorite charity. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.
