Terrel Glen Gordon, 84, of Farmington died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at North Hills Life Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Excelsior, one of 11 children of Robert Lee and Ida Beulah Plunkett Gordon. He attended Arkansas Tech and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in agriculture. He later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
A World War II veteran, he served in the US. Army as a 1st lieutenant at Gen. Douglas MacArthur's headquarters in Manila, Philippine Islands. There he witnessed the impressive ceremony of the Japanese generals coming to receive the surrender papers to sign.
Following the war, he taught agriculture at Waldron for a short time, then started the first vocational agriculture department of the high school in Lincoln and began a new vo ag department and taught at Buckner Baptist Orphans Home, Dallas, Texas. In 2004, he was awarded an honorary degree from the Arkansas Future Farmers Association, the highest honor a nonmember can receive from the state association.
After surrendering to the call to preach the gospel in 1949, he pastured the First Baptist Churches in Lincoln and Tom Bean, Texas, Tenison Park Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, and Immanuel Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He was chaplain at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville until his retirement in 1985; then pastored Black Oak Baptist Church near Fayetteville, until failing health forced his final retirement in 2003.
He was active in the Washington-Madison Baptist Association, believed strongly in and supported national and international missions, and had a part in establishing several mission churches in the area.
A longtime member of the Fayetteville Kiwanis, Terrel served as its president in 1991. He especially enjoyed helping with the Apples That Talk charity fund-raiser.
He is survived by his wife, Lois June, Farmington; son, James Roy and wife Linda, Farmington; daughters, Betty Jo Webb and husband Jim, Ormond Beach, Fla., Ruth Alice Halterman and husband Skip, Navajo Dam, N.M.; four grandchildren, Shelley Gordon Gentry, Shane Gordon, Marni Hall, Lyndsey Webb; three stepgrandchildren, Bryan and Jeremy Halterman, Wendy Halterman Fletcher; two great-grandchildren, Terrel Graham and Bailey Gordon; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Virgie Sparks, Fort Smith, Sue Shockley, St Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Nancy Gordon, Mansfield; brother-in-law, Jack Davis and wife Mavis, Catonsville, Md.; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at Farmington First Baptist Church.
Jamie Jones and Jere D. Mitchell will officiate.
Private interment will be in National Cemetery at Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 3022, Fayetteville, 72701, or a favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.

Lois June Gordon passed away at the age of 96 on March 30, 2017 in Ormond Beach, Florida. Lois was born in 1920 in Oklahoma but spent the majority of her life in northwest Arkansas. Lois received a degree in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas in 1942 where she met her husband, Rev. Terrel Gordon. Lois and Terrel married in Fayetteville and were blessed with 62 years of marriage at the time of his passing. In addition to her role as a pastor’s wife and mother to their three children, Lois also taught home economics, became a published photojournalist, an accomplished artist, and talented pianist/organist and piano instructor. Lois devoted much of her free time to Bible study, pursuing healthy nutrition, enjoying long walks, and creatively managing the family’s small budget. Lois also enjoyed sightseeing around the country and particularly enjoyed visiting National Parks with family and friends. She made prolific notes about everything. Lois will be remembered by those who loved her for her creativity, wit, fervent faith and sweet friendly nature. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Terrel Gordon; brother, Jack Davis; and sister-in-law, Alma. Lois is survived by her son James Gordon and his wife Linda; daughter Betty Webb and husband Jim; daughter Ruth Halterman and husband Skip; along with seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois’s memory to the music ministry at your church.
