VIOLET HILL — Thomas Jackson Hellums, 71, of Violet Hill died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, in Salem. Born March 22, 1938, in Larkin, he was the son of Willie Alphis Hellums and Gracie Lorenda Jackson. He was united in marriage to Jeffie Thompson on May 30, 1959, in Larkin. He was a self-employed automobile mechanic and worked for the Izard County Road Department, retiring after many years of employment. He was a member of Millcrest Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years; a son, Lydell Hellums of West Memphis; two daughters, Gaye Arnold of Melbourne and Kay Rush of Cave City; three brothers, Johnnie Hellums of Moxie City, Wash., Eldon Hellums of Pyatt and Billy Hellums of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Dorothy Jones of Melbourne; nine grandchildren, Jackie Hellums, Joey Hellums, Jessica Hartgraves, Samantha Tate, Savannah Adkins, Colby Adkins, Brady Hellums, Gracie Hellums and Blake Hellums; and four great-grandchildren, Kiersten Hartgraves, Sarah Hartgraves, Dalton Tate and Taylor Hellums.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Noble Hellums.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Donald Gillihan officiating. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Colby Adkins, Brady Hellums, Robert Hartgraves, Steven Shrable, Jody Conway and Nathan Hellums.
Honorary pallbearers are Danny Franks, Bob Martin, Cecil Englehardt, Freddie Shrable, Paul Rush, Jim Phipps and Larry Grant.

Jeffie Lee Thompson Hellums Of Violet Hill, Arkansas
January 13, 1941 - June 17, 2020
Jeffie Lee Thompson Hellums, daughter of the late Ellis Eldon Thompson and Artie Irene Thompson, was born January 13, 1941 at Twin Creek, Arkansas. She departed this life June 17, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Batesville, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 4 days. She was united in marriage to Thomas Jackson Hellums May 30, 1959 and together they raised four children. She spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. She was employed by Violet Hill School District as Dietary Supervisor. She retired after 25 years of employment. She was of the Church of Christ faith and a member of Millcrest Church of Christ.
Jeffie is survived by four children: Kay Rush (Brody Hubbard) of Batesville, Gaye Arnold (Danny Franks) of Melbourne, Melanie Hellums (Demmie Arnold) of Sidney, Lyndell Hellums (Inez) of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister: Sue Jones (Buddy) of Bryant; two aunts: Faye Stapleton and Jaclyn Thompson of Newport; ten grandchildren: Savannah Simpson, Colby Adkins, Jessica Goines, Samantha Tate, Gracie Hellums, Blake Hellums, Brady Hellums, Jackie Reyes, Joseph Hellums; 14 great grandchildren: Chloe, Lynlee, Jorden, Kiersten, Sarah, Dalton, Maycee Taylor, Kaden, Kinley, Kensi, Kali, Emma and Gunner; one great great grandson: Haskin; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years: Thomas Hellums; a brother-in-law: Billy Hellums and an infant brother.
Visitation and graveside funeral service will be Friday, June 19. Visitation will be held at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m. Graveside funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at New Liberty Cemetery with Gerald Coleman officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Anna Gipson, Debbie Miller and all of Jeffie’s nurses.
