Jerry
CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT US Air Force
July 26, 1938 - September 4, 2020

After a long, hard-fought battle against cancer, Jerry L. Murphy, 82, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 4, 2020, surrounded by family at his home in Cabot. Jerry was born in McJester, AR, on July 26, 1938, to Arley & Katherine Slaten Murphy. He grew up in Pangburn, AR, and joined the Air Force in 1956 shortly after graduating high school. He proudly served his country for 30 years before retiring as a Chief Master Sargent in 1986. He spent the next 12+ years overseas working first for Lockheed-Martin, followed by ARINC, continuing in the field of aircraft maintenance.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Altha Shipes Murphy; brother Arley Murphy, Jr.; sisters, Boby Jo Usery and Jackie Patterson, grandson, Nick Roach; granddaughter, Kayla Frazier, and great granddaughter, Alayna Frazier.

He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of over 20 years, Wanda L. Murphy; sons, Michael (Cyndi) Murphy, Brian (Tracy) Roach, & Scott (Amy) Roach; daughter, LeAnne (Pat) Ross; sisters, Sandra (Alan) Clark and Janice (Wes) Eldridge; granddaughters, Katie Murphy and Sammie Volkamer; grandsons, Kyle (Megan) Roach and Connor Roach; great granddaughters, Isabella Frazier, Amelia Roach, and Brayleigh Roach; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other special family and friends. He had a special place in his heart for all his "Second Family," but especially for Maggie, Jackson & Raylee to whom he became "Papa Jerry."

Jerry was a wonderful man who loved life and lived it to the fullest! Golf was his passion and he played as often as his health permitted! He inspired so many with his positive attitude, and his never ending love, faith, and trust in the Lord! No matter what trials he faced, his faith held strong. He was adored by his family and friends, and he cherished every moment he could spend with them.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 10 from 6 to 8 PM, with funeral service at 10 AM on Friday, September 11, both at Second Baptist Church, 1117 N. James Street, Jacksonville, AR, followed by burial at Henderson Cemetery, Pangburn, AR.
