Virginia Thornton Stumbaugh Grant, 85, of Russellville, went home to be with her Lord Friday, September 13, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family in Russellville.
The daughter of Ernest and Cleo (Kilgore) Thornton, she was born July 8, 1928 in Burdette.
She was a secretary and library clerk with the Arkansas Tech University Library System for 36 years and a member of the First Baptist Church in Russellville. Being an avid reader, she studied her bible and enjoyed books of the historic, mystery and novel genre. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers and shrubs at her home. Virginia dearly loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 26 years, Don Stumbaugh; her second husband of 23 years, Joe Don Grant; her parents; son-in-law, Charles Joe Walters; two sisters, Ruby Dean and Doris Springer; and brother, E. L. Thornton, Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Ruth Walters of Dover and Carol Moss of Fayetteville; son, Kenneth Stumbaugh and wife, Johnnie of Springdale; two granddaughters, Christie Hickey Schultz and husband, Dan of Davie, FL and Tiffanie Williams and husband, Kevin of Fayetteville; two great grandchildren, Braeden Williams of Fayetteville and Brynn Schultz of Davie, FL; three sisters, Patricia Piper and husband, Eddie of MS, Sue Farris of CO and Dottie Albertine of MS; brother, Billy Thornton of FL; several nephews, nieces and extended family; and special friends, Shirley Sumners, Paula Cox, Susan Wilkins, Tona Neuman and Terri Freeman.
Funeral Service will be held at 10AM, Monday, September 16, 2013 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. Brother Micah Williams and Brother Harold Stumbaugh will officiate. Burial will be at McFadden Cemetery in Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5-8PM, on Sunday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Senior Companion Program, c/o Jenny Huss, 915 S Arkansas Ave, Russellville, AR 72801.
Pallbearers are Kevin Williams, Braeden Williams, Robert Wilson, Jason Muncy, Donnie McConkey and Michael Tindall. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Kevin Beavers, Billy Walters and Eddie Piper.
