Joe M. White, 76, of Conway, passed from this life on Friday, November 6, 2020.

He was born December 23, 1943, to the late Clarence T. White and late Mamie Hazel White, and was a lifelong Conway native, and member of Robinson and Center Church of Christ. In 1962, he married Betty Sue Ward of Conway.

Joe attended Irby Training School and is a 1961 graduate of Conway High School and 1966 graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He served as the director of the UCA Student Center from 1965-1977 before serving as general manager of United Motor Company for almost 30 years. An appointee of then Governor Bill Clinton, Joe served on the UCA Board of Trustees from 1984 through 1998, including two years as chairman.

He was a past member of the Faulkner County Election Commission, a member of the Conway Morning Optimist Club, served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and as a member of the Faulkner County Council on Aging board, he was instrumental in acquiring the funding for the John and Ola Hawks Senior Center. He was a staunch supporter of the Pine Street Backpack Program, and served as a delegate for Arkansas at the 1996 Democratic National Convention. He was also an inaugural member of the Arkansas Lottery Commission, serving until 2011, and has served for more than two decades on the First Security Bank - Conway Advisory Board.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue White; two daughters, Melissa Jerrell (Matthew) and Robin Voss (Chris); seven grandchildren, Matthew Fiddler (Ragen), Mallory Jo Thessing (Bart), Joe Voss, Willy Voss, Max Voss, Frankie Jerrell and Scotty Jerrell; five great-grandchildren, Jaxson Fiddler, John Taylor Fiddler, Ellie Jo Thessing, Kinley Thessing and Luke Thessing; and one sister, Barbara Pickhardt (John) of Missoula, MT. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Brad Pickhardt (Nancy), Mark Pickhardt (Kathy), Barbara Bretz (Mark), Greg Ward (Kathy), Leslie Ward Baker, Chris Yarbrough (Melissa), Tonya Barnard, and a host of great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Conway, AR, under the direction of Roller McNutt Funeral Home. There will be a small visitation following the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be George Covington, Hal Crafton, Leo Crafton, Ricky Harrington, Hal Hunnicutt and Greg Sanson. Honorary pallbearers will be Milburn Adams, Harold Comstock, Eric King and Alan Lipsmeyer.

Masks are required and social distancing appreciated.
