June Shirkey Walters, 77, a resident of Russellville, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was born February 7, 1932, in the Fairmount Community in Prairie County to Lee Orin and Mary Margaret Murphy Shirkey. June graduated from the Capital City Business College in Little Rock; was retired from the Arkansas Department of Health, Area III Office; and was a registered histotechnologist and worked in pathology labs at hospitals in Little Rock, Springdale, and Russellville. She was a member of the Dover United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Eugene Â"GeneÂ" Walters; four brothers, Lester, Orin, Lee O., and Harold Shirkey; and three sisters, Mable Feilke, and Gladys and Arlene Shirkey.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Shonda Walters of Clarksville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and William Sims of Russellville; four grandchildren, Natalie Underwood of Perryville, Jeff Walters of Russellville, Zachary Walters of Clarksville, and Kelsey Sims of Russellville; two great-granddaughters, Laykin Rentfro and Maddy Bell Underwood, both of Perryville; a brother, Pete Shirkey of Stuttgart; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Dale Shelton of Casscoe; two sisters-in-law, Edna and Ann Shirkey, both of Stuttgart; her lifelong best friend, Reba Rose of Little Rock; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Dover United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dede Roberts and the Rev. Josh Ditmer officiating. Burial will be in McFadden Cemetery at Dover under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff, Randall, Shannon, Keith, and James David Walters, and Curtis Tindall. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Tindall and Blake Walters.
