Woman killed in shooting; son arrested
Documents: Garfield man thought of murdering mother
BENTONVILLE — A Garfield man had thought about killing his mother for five or six years, according to court documents filed Tuesday afternoon.
Patrick Malone, 20, was arrested Monday in connection with capital murder. His bond was set at $250,000 Tuesday. Prosecutors haven't filed a formal charge against Malone.
Benton County Sheriff's Office deputies went to 16912 Ridge Road in Garfield shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.
Deputies found Christel Malone, 44, dead from gunshot wounds. Patrick Malone was arrested at the scene, according to a news release.
Malone told Detective Alison Nguyen he began to think about things his mother had called him, according to the probable cause affidavit. He described his mother as evil and said the two hated each other.
Malone said he walked into a bedroom and when his mother turned and looked at him he shot her, according to the probable cause affidavit. He described hearing two or three bangs and then clicking sounds.
Christel Malone had multiple bullet wounds to her face, according to court documents.
Danny Malone called 911 and said his son shot and killed his wife and his son is mentally ill, according to the affidavit.
Deputies found a .410 Taurus Judge gun in a holster on the dining room table, according to the affidavit.
Benton County Prosecutor Nathan Smith requested Malone be held without bond. Smith cited the strength of the case and the severity of the charge as reasons to hold Malone without bail.
Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan appointed the Benton County Public Defenders Office to represent Malone.
Kevin Lammers, a deputy public defender, requested bond be set at $100,000. Malone has no family outside Benton County and he has lived in the county for the past 18 years, Lammers said.
Malone told Duncan he is unemployed and hasn't had a job since last year.
Arraignment Patrick Malone's arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sept. 11 in Circuit Judge Brad Karren's courtroom.

GARFIELD — Christel Denise Malone, 44, of Garfield, passed away July 31, 2017. She was born Dec. 13, 1972, in Altus, Okla., the daughter of Willma Dean and Evelyn Pauline Baker Burk.
Christel was a nurse and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Danny; children, Josh, Ashley, Garrett, Patrick and Sarah Malone; her mother; one brother; two sisters; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th, Rogers.
