WEST FORK — Eugene H. Godfrey, 82, of West Fork died Nov. 15, 2000, in Fayetteville. He was born July 15, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., to Floyd D. and Vera Jenks Godfrey. He served as liaison sergeant for more than four years in Army Company B, 108th Medical Battalion during WWII. He received the Bronze Star. He graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1950. He was an industrial designer, art teacher, knifemaker, mayor of the town of Washington in southwest Arkansas and a writer. One of his knives was presented to Gov. Bill Clinton and another is on board the USS Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Godfrey of West Fork, to whom he was married Dec. 7, 1949, in Evanston, Ill.; one brother, Richard F. Godfrey of Raleigh, N.C.; three children, Lance Godfrey of Las Vegas, Nev., Mia Benson of West Fork and Aaron Godfrey of Grand Junction, Colo.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was buried in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville in a private service for family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Public Library.

FARMINGTON — Mary Jo Godfrey, 89, of Farmington passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born June 5, 1924, in Johnstown, Pa., to Frank and Margaret Slick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 51 years, Eugene Godfrey.

Survivors include her daughter, Mia Benson and husband, Randal, of West Fork; two sons, Aaron Godfrey and wife, Debbie, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Lance Godfrey and wife, Shelley, of Prescott, Ariz.; brother, Ben Slick and wife, Shirley, of Redlands, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Private burial will be held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Public Library, 401 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville, AR 72701.
