Vernon Leon Holsted, 74, of Rudy passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, in a Fayetteville hospital.
He was a native of Paris.
He was retired from the U.S. Army after serving more than 20 years as a first class staff sergeant. He was a retired self-employed truck driver for 88 Express Truck Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel (Helton) Holsted; one son, Danny Ray Holsted; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Mount McCurry Cemetery in Rudy with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Zella (Barenberg) Holsted of the home; four daughters, Pam Tollett and husband K-Mark, Tammiejo Young and husband Joey, Dallas Kiely and husband Mike and Emily Holsted, all of Rudy; four sons, Danny Lee Holsted and wife Mary of Rudy, Matt Holsted and wife Regina of Mountainburg, Dale Holsted of Fort Smith and Bob France of Fort Smith; one brother, William "Butch" Holsted of Oklahoma City; nine sisters, Agnes Kiefer, Willie Mae Hogan, Bonnie Sue Havens, Emmylou Gibson, Linda Kay Madden and Glenda Fay Hobbs, all of Paris, Martha Viezey of Pine Bluff, Gladys Brocket of Altus and Phyllis Chambers of Havana; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Roberts, Dustin Duprey, Aaron Brantley, Michael Berry, Chad Holsted and Toby Holsted.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark and Joe Holsted.
