April 14, 1899 - December 29, 1969
Mrs. Velma S. Chandler, 70, of 313 W. Second St., died Monday morning in a local hospital following a brief illness. She was born April 14, 1899, in El Dorado and was the daughter of George Thomas and Pauline Combs Pickering. She was a member of the Vantrease United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Adolph Chandler, El Dorado; three daughters, Mrs. Eradelle Bush, Mrs. Marjorie Batchelor and Mrs. Madera Mason, all of El Dorado; a brother, Elmer Pickering, El Dorado; a sister, Miss Bettie Pickering, El Dorado; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Vantrease United Methodist Church with the Rev. Noel Cross officiating. Burial will follow in Old Parker's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Felix Pickering, Powell Pickering, Johnny Pickering, Lawson Combs, Herman Chandler and Paul Chandler. (El Dorado Times - December 30, 1969)
