Evert (E. J.) Hardcastle, 92, of Fort Smith, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at his home.

He was a son of the late Jim W. and Hattie Nichols Hardcastle, native of Ozark, retired coal miner and former salesman for the Galloway Oil and Tire Company, and a member of the Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church and the U.C.T.

Other survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rose Abercrombie Hardcastle and a sister, Odys Hardcastle of Clarksville.

Rose Hardcastle, 102, of Fort Smith departed her earthly life to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ in her mansion in heaven on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Fort Smith.
She was born April 8, 1912, in Rising Fawn, Ga., to John and Bertie (Tolbert) Abercrombie.

Rose married Evert Hardcastle when she was 16 in 1929, in Elkins. They later moved to Ozark and then settled in Fort Smith. Rose was a homemaker and a member of Evangel Temple, and she was a good Christian for 98 years of her life. She was famous for her good cooking. She loved to piece quilts and loved the flowers she grew in her gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Evert Hardcastle; two sons, Eldon and Darrell Hardcastle; three brothers, Henry, Herman and Benjamin Abercrombie; and two sisters, Myra Willis and Nola Garner.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Evangel Temple Church officiated by the Rev. Tim Sallee, the Rev. Don Hutchings and the Rev. Matthew Stevenson with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Evelyn Sallee of Fort Smith; one son, Kenneth Hardcastle and his wife Naomi of Van Buren; four grandchildren, Mark Sallee and Lee Hardcastle and his wife Becky of Fort Smith, Anthony Sallee of Nashville, Tenn., and the Rev. Tim Sallee and his wife Rachelle of Tonitown; and 10 great-grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Brook , Mitchell, Tara, Brittany, Hayden, Madeline, Alexis and Drake Sallee and Kevin and his wife Jennifer and Kimberly Hardcastle.

Pallbearers will be Anthony, Mark, Matthew and Mitchell Sallee and Lee and Trevor Hardcastle.
