Regenia Watson Daugherty, 87, of Van Buren, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at her home.
Born August 25, 1930 in Walnut Ridge.

The daughter of a Methodist minister, she graduated high school at Calico Rock, and Hendrix College in Conway. She was Youth Director at First United Methodist churches in Newport and Jonesboro and taught English in Van Buren Schools for 18 years. She was listed as a Distinguished Educator in Who's Who among America's Teachers in 1992 and was recognized as a Top Ten Teacher in the area by KFSM, Channel 5. In 1994 she was the Teacher of the Year in Van Buren and nominated for National Teacher of the Year. . After retiring from the public schools, she became Chief Examiner of GED Testing for over 12 years at the Crawford County Continuing Education Center and was given a citation from the House of Representatives of the State of Arkansas for her passion for education and her positive impact on her many students. A member of New Hope United Methodist Church, she was church organist for almost fifty years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, W.T. and Edna Milloway Watson; her husband, Robert (Bob) E. Daugherty; a son, Robert Andrew Daugherty; and a brother, Bill Watson.

She is survived by three sons, Doug Daugherty and wife Tricia of Van Buren, Joel Daugherty and wife Cindy of Van Buren, and Jeff Daugherty and wife Candi of Denton, Texas; a brother, Jerry Watson and wife Nelda of North Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Michael Daugherty, Brittany Daugherty, Aaron Daugherty, Sarah Daugherty, Tara Daugherty, Loretta Black, and Cassie Shelton, and seven great-grandchildren, Leah and Lainey Daugherty, Liam Daugherty, Ephriam Daugherty, Avalyn Hughes, Khanen Wayne Null, and Randi Jo Cass.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at the New Hope Methodist United Church in Van Buren with Rev. Bob Jeffrey officiating. A private family committal will be held at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
