Earl Carney, 53 years old, of 29 North 22nd Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Monday, February 23, 1970 in a Fort Smith hospital.

A native of Rudy, Arkansas, he was born June 12, 1916, the son of the late Grover Carney and Mrs. Ola Johnson Carney of Fort Smith. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist church and was a truck driver for Gordon Transports. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors are his wife; three sons; three daughters; his mother; four brothers; two sisters; a step-son; a step-daughter; and six grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bethlehem Freewill Baptist church. Gilbert Pixley, Rupert Pixley and Leonard Crowder were officiating ministers. Burial, directed by Ocker Funeral Home, was in Gracelawn cemetery.

Fellow drivers of Gordon Transports serving as casket bearers. Honorary pallbearers were other drivers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Carney, 66, of 2308 North 57th Lane, Fort Smith, Arkansas was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Free Will Baptist Church, in Fort Smith, with the pastor, the Rev. Rupert Pixley, officiating. Burial was in Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carney, who died Sunday at a Fort Smith hospital, was a drapery seamstress for Sears, Roebuck and Co., and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanda and Linda; four sons; seven sisters, Almeida, Margaret, Amanda, Elsie, Clayceail, Allene and Oma Mae; two brothers, Billy and Clyde; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
