Mrs. Frankie B. Hines was born Frankie Jean Beard on September 15th, 1935 in Camden, AR. She is the third (3rd) youngest child of nine (9) children born to Elijah and Minnie Beard. She graduated from Lincoln high School (Camden, AR.) in 1953. While attending high school, she was a member of the band, basketball team and participated in a variety of school activities. After finishing high school, Frankie attended Bishop College in Marshall, Texas and received a B.S. degree in elementary education in 1957.
In 1957, her teaching career began in Conway, AR and in 1958 she moved to the West Helena, AR school district. After working there for a couple of years, she met and married Lee Davis Hines (deceased 2006) from Chidester, AR. They married in 1959 and Frankie moved back to Camden, AR and taught 4th grade at Nelson Elementary.
In 1963, the young couple welcomed their first child, Frank Davis (David) Hines. In 1970, the couple had a second child, Jay Anthony Hines. The years between having both children, Frankie received a Master’s degree in elementary Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. The school district integrated and Frankie moved to Whiteside Elementary to teach 3rd grade and finished her teaching career at Ivory Elementary. After 40 years as an educator, she decided to retire in 1997. In that same year, Frankie received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Arkansas Baptist College.
Dr. Frankie Hines was a long-time and founding member of the New Haven Baptist Church from 1957 until her death. She was a deaconess, member of the gospel choir, pianist, women’s auxiliary, mother’s board and Sunday school teacher. Her service to the church extended even further as Director of the Ouachita District (Young People’s Department) from 1986-2000 and Southwest Regional Director from 2000-2005. Dr. Hines was also a member of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron for a couple of years.
In 2004, Dr. Frankie Hines was diagnosed with Alzheimer/Dementia. In her later years, she was cared for exclusively by Betty Johnson, Vicki Whyte and various health care specialist. Dr. Hines departed this life peacefully at home in her sleep on August 20th, 2018. As an educator, she taught and touched the lives of over six (6) thousands young people in her long and storied career. She is survived by her two sons, Frank (Boston, MA) and Jay Hines (Marysville, OH), grandsons David and Daniel Hines (L.A. California), sister Ruth Brown (Cleveland, OH), brothers Sylvester (Milwaukee, WI) and James Beard (Cleveland, OH) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and former students.
Visitation hour will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 5-7pm at the New Haven Baptist Church, 336 Stewart St. in Camden, AR. The celebration of life ceremony will also be at New Haven Baptist Church on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11am. Williams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 504 Adams AVE. Camden, AR.
