*Obituary
Mr. Nicholas F. Cornelius of Van Buren passed away at his home in 1909. He had returned home on Saturday, March 20, 1909 from St. Louis, Missouri where he was purchasing goods and took to his bed and did not recover.
He was born in 1838 in Hanover, Germany to Gerhardt D. and Margeret D.Jontzen Corneilus, native of Hanover.
Nicholas lived on the home farm until fourteen years of age, and then worked in a dry goods store at Bremen until 1854 as an apprentice.
He immigrated to America in 1854, and prior to coming to Van Buren, he followed his avocation in Dry goods as a salesman in Buffalo, New York, St. Louis, Missouri, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
He arrived in Van Buren in 1861 and established his business. He was a successful business man in the 48 years he lived in this city and had a large circle of friends.
He was a Master Mason and a Democrat, in religion he was a believer of the German Lutheran creed.
He was preceded in death his wife, Harriet O. Hodges Corneilus, Frederick Marion Cornelius, Mary Ella Cornelius, Mary Hodges Cornelius and Hattie Hodges Corneilus.
He was survived by 4 children, Miss Rosena, Benjamin Augustus, Augustus Claude and Mrs. N.F. Donelson and stepson Morehead Ruttan.
Funeral services were held at Central Presbyterian Church with the Rev. W.B. Miller officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Harriet O. Hodges Cornelius was born on September 27,1838 in Louisville, Kentucky to John and Ann Medlicot Hodges.
She married Nicholas F. Cornelius in 1863.
She passed away on March 15,1896 in Van Buren, Arkansas.
She was a Presbyterian.
She had a brother, Ben F. Hodges of Van Buren and a sister, Mary, wife of Dr. Thomas Caster of Ozark, Arkansas.
She was the mother of Frederick Marion Cornelius, Rosena Cornelius, Benjamin Augustus Cornelius, Augustus Claude Cornelius, Edna Cornelius Daugherty, Mary Ella Cornelius and Mary Hodges Cornelius.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren.
