Marian Larsen Golden closed her eyes and slipped from the arms of her earthly family into those of her Heavenly Father and family February 3, 2014 at the age of 86. Marian was born January 25, 1928 to Arthur and Emma Griepp in Glad Valley, South Dakota. She grew up in the dust bowl during the depression era, the fourth of nine children in a loving family. Fortitude and resilience developed with early experiences including a family move when the government bought their farm for 1 dollar. Marian guided children her entire life, graduating from Aberdeen College as a teacher. She married Herman Larsen and was soon surrounded by her own large family. Marian was a devoted mother who enjoyed having her children close, playing games and fostering family traditions such as taffy pulls and annual peppernut baking. She often sewed matching dresses for her five daughters. Marian pursued many interests and careers but is best remembered for combining her love of teaching and creativity in Larsen’s Ceramics and the Old Mill Gift Shop. She was a skilled artisan and astute business woman. Marian was an active member of Living Word Worship Center and loved the Lord along with her church family. She was known for her unconditional love for family and friends. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Herman Larsen (57 years) and Calvin Golden, daughter Donna Wyatt, great granddaughter Jessica Hanna and brothers Phillip and Ezra Griepp. Survivors include daughters Linda (Carroll) Funderburk, Sandy (Joe) Newell, Debbie (Mike) Rigsby, Patty Ray; son Mark (Linda) Larsen; son-in-law Paul Wyatt; sisters Wilma (Vic) Mastley and Alice (Virgil) Schlotte; brothers Aaron (Betty), Allen (Marge), and David (Wanda) Griepp; sister-in-law Verna Griepp; 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson . Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Living Word Worship Center with Bro. Donnie Edge and Bro. James Griepp officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery.
