HORSESHOE BEND -- Allen B. Bonsall, 75, of Horseshoe Bend died Thursday, March 20, at the North Arkansas Life Care Center in Horseshoe Bend.

Bonsall was a retired minister with the North Arkansas Conference United Methodist Church. He was a sergeant with the Army Air Forces during World War II and kept active in the community with the Horseshoe Bend Lions Club International, AARP Chapter No. 1420, the Horseshoe Bend police auxiliary, former Chaplain of American Legion of Horseshoe Bend and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 140 in Clarinda, Iowa. He was an ambulance driver.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Leona of the home; one son, James Allen of Norphlet; two daughters, Vicki Lynn Packer of Mountain Home and Judith Ann McCulloch of Houston; three sisters, Vera Tina Herzeberg of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janice Jean Wilson of Clarinda, Iowa, Martha Bertha Martin of North Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruice Allen and Katherine Bonsall.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend, with the Rev. Everett Isom officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church and the Lions Club of Horseshoe Bend.

Leona was born September 01, 1931 on a farm in Page County Iowa (outside of Clarinda, Iowa). She was the youngest of 10 children of Edward Jefferson Bean and Ora Langloss Bean. Leona graduated from Clarinda High School in 1949. She married Allen Bruce Bonsall September 04, 1949 at the Clarinda Methodist Church. Leona & Allen moved to Texas in June 1952, Allen was ordained a Lay Minister of the Texas Conference of the Methodist Church in 1960 and Leona became a minister's wife. She was active in the Methodist Women and with the Youth of the churches they served. In the summer of 1965 Allen, Leona, & children were transferred to the Little Rock Conference in Arkansas. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women of the Little Rock Conference. She resided in Horseshoe Bend for 25 years before moving to Mountain Home in 2014.

Leona passed away in Mountain Home on October 6, 2016, and was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Ora Bean, her husband of 54 years, Rev. Allen B. Bonsall, seven sisters and two brothers. She is survived by: daughter, Vicki Packer & husband Clyde of Mountain Home, Arkasnas; son, Jim Bonsall & wife Mendal of Norphlet, Arkansas and daughter, Judy McCulloch & husband Mike of Fulshear, Texas. Grandchildren are Chris Packer, Beth Packer Avery & husband Chris, Craig Bonsall & wife Amanda, Brooke Bonsall, Erin Bonsall Williams & husband Chris, Jeffrey McCulloch & wife Becca, Kyle McCulloch & wife Taryn, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

A graveside service will be October 29, 2016, 11:00am at Evening Shadows Memorial Park Cemetery in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas.
