July 16, 1958 - July 19, 2020
On July 16, 1958, Doris Finley-Brice was born to Agnes Pierce Finley and Cubie Finley, Sr. in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was the 10th child born to this union.
Doris was a graduate of El Dorado High School, Class of 1976. After high school, she continued her education as a social work major at Southern State College (SAU-Magnolia). She worked with Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) in Union County as a home-based instructor. After HIPPY, Doris worked in healthcare for nearly 30 years. In 2012, she returned to college to study criminal justice at South Arkansas Community College, where she earned two postsecondary degrees. In 2014, she studied advanced sociology and criminology at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro. In 2015, Doris and her elder son, Dr. Anwar Fairley, established Beyond Every Obstacle Ministries of Hope, an educational and social services non-profit organization in Arkansas and a home rental business.
She confessed a hope and belief in Christ at an early age. Doris was a member of the Community Church of God in Christ.
On Sunday, July 19, 2020, Doris peacefully transitioned from the church militant to the church triumphant. In transition, she is united with her parents; Brother Cubie Finley Jr; Sister Ollie Faye Finley; Sister Artie Mary Finley-Thompson; Sister Jeanette Finley-Kilgore; and Sister Emma Finley-Carey.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, Mr. Elgin Lee Brice; daughter Mariah Fairley (Delvin) of El Dorado AR; two sons: Dr. Anwar Fairley (Christina) of Benton, AR and Quiston Fairley, Sr. of El Dorado, AR; two beloved grandchildren: Quiston ¨Stokely¨ Fairley, II, and Jeanasia ¨Muh¨ Richmond both of El Dorado, AR; three brothers: Charles Finley (Bobbi Jo) of Mineral Springs, AR; Leonard Finley, Sr. and Robert Finley (Pateria) both of El Dorado, AR; four sisters: Gwendolyn Finley-Jones of Little Rock, AR; Jo Ann Finley-Montgomery, Carolyn Finley-Evans (James), and Alice Carter of El Dorado, AR, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss her tremendously.
