BELLA VISTA — Leona Johnson, 81, of Bella Vista died May 11, 2002. She was born April 15, 1921, in Jansen, Neb., to Henry and Anna Brandt. She was a 40-year survivor of cancer.

She lived in Junction City, Kan., then, moved to Fairbury, Neb., where she and her husband farmed. In 1968, she and her husband opened an H&R Block office and a Sears store. She retired to Bella Vista in 1983, working for the Bella Vista Community Church, the Ostomy Association and the Fibromyalgia Support Group. She also volunteered for Peel House and Helping Hands and was a tutor.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle Johnson, whom she married June 18, 1942; one daughter, Brenda Dunklau and husband Bill; one son, Tim Johnson and wife Janice; one sister, Louise Friesen of Reedley, Calif.; two grandchildren, Francy Collins and Brent Dunklau; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bella Vista Community Church, with the Rev. Dick Lindman officiating.

Memorials may be made to the church at 75 Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, 72714 or to the Bella Vista Public Library, 11 Dickens Place, Bella Vista, 72714.

Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Rogers.
