of Searcy, AR
April 19, 1912 - May 13, 2008
Lettie Baker Gentry, age 96, of Searcy, passed away at her home on May 13, 2008. She was a retired grocer and homemaker who co-owned and operated Gentry's Grocery in Searcy from 1948 until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the Searcy First United Methodist Church, and was recognized as a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lettie dearly loved her family and treasured her friends, and that love and friendship was returned to her many times over the years. Born on April 19, 1912 ("four days after the Titanic sank", as she always informed others). She was born in Rose Bud, Arkansas, as the 8th child of Frank and Cora Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Marvin Gentry; her son, Kenneth Gentry; and eight siblings.
She is survived by her son Tom Gentry of Rancho Mirage, California, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Searcy.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home with interment following at Honey Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. There will also be visitation immediately prior to the funeral from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
