*Obituary

Willie Mae Parks, 100, of Searcy, died Sunday, August 17, 2014. She was born December 29, 1913 in Searcy, the daughter of Lee Roy and Nettie Greer.
Willie Mae spent the last one hundred years humbly serving the Lord and her family. She raised nine children on small acreage west of Searcy in the shadow of the Great Depression. Often times alone while her beloved husband, Carlos, was working, she provided for her family out of her abundant garden, and by ironing, and sewing. Those circumstances and struggles shaped her faith and strengthened her loyalty to family. She endured the loss of three children; Gaylon, Sue, and James, with grace and resolve. For the next generation of her fifteen grandchildren, her modest home on Arch street was the hub of the Parks family for over four decades. Her door and kitchen table were always open for a hot meal of turnips and cornbread and a large helping of unconditional love. Her influence runs deep and her legacy will endure for many generations. She was a longtime member of West Race Baptist Church and taught Sunday School at Honey Hill Church for many years.
Willie is survived by four sons, Bill Parks (Aileene), Randall Parks (Charlotte), and Danny Parks (Mary Jane) of Searcy, and Robert Parks (Julie) of Odessa, Texas; two daughters, Ann Bayly of Rensselaer, New York and Judy Parks of Searcy; a brother, Elmer Greer; a sister, Virgineous Grissom; and 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Carlos Parks; three children, Gaylon Parks, Sue Hancock, and James Parks; three sisters; three brothers; and a son-in-law, John Bayly.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.
