Marie W. Swaim, 87, of Fort Smith, formerly of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Tuesday June 21, 2011. She was born September 30, 1923 in Bismarck, Arkansas to the late Columbus M. & Bennie M. (Burroughs) Whitfield. She worked with the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce for 24 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church before moving to Fort Smith, where she became a member of Sacred Heart of Mary in Barling, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.D.Bill Swaim. She is survived by her children, Carole Harris (Jim) of Fort Smith, AR; Beverly Gerdeman (Bob) of Mt. Sterling, OH; Bill Swaim (Judy) of Ellicott City, Maryland; and Diane ONale (Nick) of Junction City, AR; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm, at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Michael Bass officiating.
