Farest Elwood Brooks, who resided in Paris, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith. He was born Dec. 5, 1944, in Texarkana, Ark., to the late Farest Elton Brooks and Hazel Claudine (Snead) Brooks. He was 66 years old.
Elwood was a retired high school principal for the Paris Public School System. After his retirement, he became principal for St. Joseph Catholic School in Paris. In 1996, he received the state of Arkansas principal of the year award. He served on the Paris City Council for several years and was a coach. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Quails Unlimited and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris, Arkansas.

Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 42 years: Lynda Brooks, of the home; one daughter, Laura Witt and husband Mike of Magazine; two sons, Steven Brooks of West Helena and Ryan Brooks and wife Mandi of Little Rock; two sisters, Janis Echols and husband Jerry of Lake Palestine, Texas, and Cherry Pool and husband Larry of Midlothian, Texas; five grandchildren, Bridget, Ethan, Jesse, Daniel and Harrison, Arkansas; other relatives and many former students and friends.

A funeral service was held Monday morning, 06/27/2011, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel, in Paris, Arkansas.
Mr. Brooks was laid to rest at Saint Joseph's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Kevin Barham, Joe Schluterman, Bill Wright, Doug Davis, David Cravens, Bill Elsken, Atlas Ratliff, and Dale Erwin.

Lynda Brooks, of Paris, died Monday, May 10, 2021, in Fort Smith. She was born December 12, 1948, in Fort Smith, to the late Curtis Stevens, Jr. and Rosella (Kukar) Stevens. She was 72 years old. She was preceded in death by her father and husband, Elwood Brooks.

Lynda worked as County Clerk for Logan County, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of P.E.O. International and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris.

The family will hold a private graveside service on Thursday, May 13th, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris, with Father Reginald Udouj, OSB, officiating, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Witt and husband Mike of Fort Smith; two sons, Steven Brooks of Paris and Ryan Brooks and wife Mandi of Little Rock; her mother, Rosella Stevens of Charleston; two sisters, Becky Stevens of Little Rock and Janie Brant and Marvin of Muldrow, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Bridget Scheffler and husband Zach of El Reno, Oklahoma, Ethan Williams of Lowell, Jesse and Daniel Witt of Fort Smith and Harrison and Waverly Brooks of Little Rock; and one great-grandchild, Roman Williams of Garfield, Arkansas.
