Raymond John (Ray) Blaty, 97, resided with his daughter and son-in-law in Plano, Texas formerly of Paris passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, in Carrollton, Texas.
He was born May 24, 1919, in Subiaco to the late Frank John and Elizabeth Catherine (Etzkorn) Blaty. As a young boy Ray worked with his father at the Subiaco Abbey. Ray then served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. After his military service he retired from Cloyes Gear as an inspector with 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans Post 1133 of Paris and the American Legion. Ray enjoyed gardening, raising Rat Terriers and raising an African grass called Job’s Tears which he used to make rosaries. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Viola C. Blaty and three sisters, Madeline Jantzen, Loretta Burwell and Frances Blaty.
Survivors include two daughters, Meri Garrett-Perez of Plano, Texas and Kimberly Ann Robertson of Alma; three grandchildren, Michael Andre Garrett of Dallas, Texas, Tyler Alexander Garrett of Austin, Texas and Nickole Elizabeth Mings-Shelton of Alma and three great grandchildren.
Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 11, 2016, at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 12, 2016, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Eugene Luke officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Paris.
