McCOY, Artie Alice GILMORE - Artie Alice Gilmore was born near Howard in Elk county, Kansas June 12, 1886. Passed away June 28, 1927. She was 41 years old and 16 days. When a child she moved with her parents, J.H. and Grace Gilmore, to Alva, Okla., attending the Northwest Normal school. Later she moved to Wichita, Kans. In the year 1907 on June 5 she was united in marriage to C.Q. McCoy of Wichita and to their union was born one child, Mildred Leafie. Mrs. McCoy and her husband allied themselves to the Presbyterian church in 1908 and were faithful members. Mrs. McCoy was a firm believer in God's word and a careful reader of the same. The family moved to Benton county, Arkansas about a year ago. She was always a kind and helpful neighbor, charitable and generous to those who suffered or were in need of attention, kind and considerate of the old. While in bed she wrote the story "Christmas in the Ozarks," that took second prize in the Benton County Record and was published in the Republic
under her aunt's name. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, one daughter, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Gilmore, one sister, Leafie Gilmore, an aged grandmother, Mrs. Mary A. Smith, and an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Johnson besides many other relatives and friends at other places. The funeral was held at me Presbyterian church at Gravette conducted by Rev. Osborn. Interment was made in the Gravette cemetery.
