Wife of Otis Sams
August 16, 1909 - November 16, 1976
Mrs. Octavia Sams, 67, Rt. 1, Box 72, Stephens, died Tuesday in a local hospital. Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Good Hope Baptist Church in Buena Vista. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home. The body will lie in state from 12 p.m. until funeral time at the church. Mrs. Sams was the daughter of the late Callie and Richard Fogle and a lifelong member of the Good Hope Baptist Church. She was also president of the Pastor's Aid Club. She is survived by her husband, Otis Sams; five daughters, Mrs. Onie Mae Sams of Camden, Mrs. Odessa Lee Hughes, and Mrs. Jessie Mae Cushenberry, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Essie Mae Arthurlee of Kansas City, Mo.; and Mrs. Gloria Dean Sams of Stephens; four sons, Don Richard Sams and Joe C. Sams, both of Detroit, Mich., Leotis Sams and John Lee Sams, both of Kansas City, Mo.; four sisters, Mrs. Nancy Neal, Mrs. Rose Lee Stitts and Mrs. Elmer Browning, all of Camden and Mrs. Geraldene Hildreth of Oakland, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
