Marion (Marian) Dean Black was born in Plankinton, SD to George Albert and Daisy Violet Jones on October 2, 1920. Marion was united in marriage with David Clair Black on December 5, 1947 in Dakota City, NE.
Upon graduation from high school, she attended Southern Normal College in Springfield, SD for 1 year. She then attended McKennan Hospital Presentation School of Nursing from 1939 to May 1942. After graduating from nursing school, she worked as a special duty nurse. She then joined the staff at Children's Care Hospital and School (CCHS) in Sioux Falls, SD. She retired as head of nursing at CCHS after 30 years of service from 1955 to 1983.
Grateful for having shared her life were her three children, Roger Holier Black of Crossville, TN, Tom Black of Canastota, SD, Linda Merritt (Barry) of Hot Springs Village, AR, 2 daughters-in-law, Debra Devaney (Tom) of Sioux Falls, SD and Deanna Lyons (Jim) of Zapata, TX, her 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 1 step-brother, Donald Jones (Bette) of Sioux Falls, SD, 1 step-sister, Georgia Richardson (Doug) of AZ, and a host of wonderful relatives and friends.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband David C. Black, her son David C. Black Jr., her parents, her step-mother, Ann Jones, her brother, Thorval Thomas Jones, 3 sisters, Dorothy Miller (Richard), Muriel Allan (Ken), and Helen Mustad (Mel), and 1 step-brother, Marlo Jones (Marge).
Family requests no flowers. Memorials may be sent to Children's Care Hospital and School in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service will be held in Bella Vista, AR at the Bella Vista Memorial Garden Cemetery on Sat. July 1, at 4:30 PM.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs, AR.
