Charles “John” Oliver Smith, 77, died Oct. 29, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 4, 1939, in East Freedom, Pa., to Clair L. and Evelyn M. (Baughman) Smith.

Charles was of the Mennonite faith. He had worked for Lackey Construction and then retired from Superior Boiler Works.

He married Patty Smith in 1959. They later divorced. He then married Leona Robinson Sept. 19, 1981, in West Virginia. She survives. Other survivors include: children, Hazel Swearingen of Hutchinson, Sheldon Smith of Martinsburg, Pa., John D. Smith of North Carolina, and Audrey Ponder of Roaring Springs, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Rick Smith and Craig Smith, both of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; sisters, Bonnie Clapper of Enterprise, Pa., Audrey Weaver of Roaring Springs, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Charles Wayne Williams; daughter, Donna Gillis; grandsons, Michael Ponder and Brad McCanles; great-granddaughter, Tiffany McCanles; and brother, Melvin Smith.

Cremation had taken place and no services will be held at this time.
