Harold Burl Newton, 89, of Gentry, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at his home.

He was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Marionville, Mo., to Burl Newton and Nellie E. (Forrester) Newton. He married Carolyn Sue Ott on Aug. 19, 1977, in Miami, Okla. He enjoyed writing music and poetry and recently published a book on the prophecy of Daniel and Revelation. He served honorably in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Sue Newton; two sisters, Elda Wilfley and Doris Wilson; one brother, Jack L. Newton; one daughter, Lynette Ball; stepson, Joe Ott; and one step-grandchild, LaTonya Grover.

He is survived by a son, Harold M. Newton and wife Twyla of Springdale; a daughter, Jill Duncan and husband Scott of Elkins; five grandchildren, Vicki Blair, Kim McCreary, Matthew Whited, Elizabeth Carlson and Sara Tipton; nine great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at the Butler Creek Cemetery near Sulphur Springs on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. Arrangements are by the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Carolyn Sue Newton, 79, of Gentry, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital.

Carolyn was born on October 4, 1938 in De Bastrop Township, Arkansas, a daughter of Andrew Compton and Lucille Whittington-Compton. She married Harold Newton in Miami, Oklahoma on August 19, 1977. Carolyn enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being artistic especially when it came to refinishing wood, singing, going to antique shops, she volunteered at the TLC for many years and would cut hair at the local nursing homes. She never met a stranger just like her father, she was a fixer of many things. If it was broken, she would attempt to fix it and succeed. She was a giver, very adventurous, always tried to find a way to have fun, and was always the boss and was bossy.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Newton of the home; 3 daughters, Deborah Melton and husband Almus of Bella Vista, AR; Cheryl Holm and husband Gerald of Gentry, AR; and Crystal Reiter of Jay, OK; 4 sisters, Nancy Brumbaugh of Jay, OK; Betty Miosi of Burleson, TX; Kathyleen Keaton of Jay, OK; and Joy Stephenson of Surprise, AZ; 5 grandchildren, Shannon Holm of Siloam Springs, AR; Jennifer Roberts of Bella Vista, AR; Brian Adams of Antioch, CA; Heather King of Siloam Springs, AR; Dalton Ott of Siloam Springs, AR; 7 great grandchildren, Aundrea Holz Kamper of Gravette, AR; Carson Roberts of Bella Vista, AR; Cooper Roberts of Bella Vista, AR; Lyric King of Siloam Springs, AR; Skyler King of Siloam Springs, AR; Hunter Adams of Antioch, CA; Hudson Adams of Antioch, CA; and many other loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Lucille Compton; 1 son, Joe Ott; 1 sister, Patricia Ott; and 1 grandchild, Latonya Grover.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 1:00pm in the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jonathan Belew and Pastor Sam Whatley. Burial will be held at the Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulpher Springs, AR under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, AR.
