*Obituary
Cathryn Marie Blackard passed away peacefully at J.R.M.C. in Clarksville on February 28, 2015, at the age of 88. She was born to Hoyt and Selma (Hickey) Jones on June 12, 1926. She has one sister, Margaret Ann Simpson, still living in Chaffee, Missouri, with her children.

Mrs. Blackard attended Lamar Schools. She was a member of the Maddin Methodist Church where she taught the Children’s Sunday School Class. She was a member of the E.H. Club, a leader in the 4-H Club, an avid quilter, and most of all, the very best cook. Canning vegetables from the garden became a specialty. Many people from the surrounding counties have enjoyed her version of Marveline Childers’s “Sun Pickles.” “Do you have any more?” is often asked. Her Uncle Howard “Red” Hickey was a player, coach, and scout, who most of you are familiar with.

Shortly after World War II, Cathryn married John I. Blackard on December 3, 1945. The couple welcomed four children into their home: John Wayne Blackard Sr., Phyllis Blackard Easley, Boyd Blackard, and Terry (Barbara) Blackard. Seven grandchildren with spouses or companions are Amber (Thomas) Parham, Angie (Jeshua) Reeder, Philisa (Tod) Higby, Phil (Cindy) Easley, John Wayne (Vera) Blackard Jr., Lee (Jenna) Blackard, and Will (Chanda) Blackard.

Twelve great-grandchildren came along to enjoy Mom’s chocolate chip cookies with extra butter. They are Taylor Easley, Andrew and Mathew Higby, Blake and Marissa Blackard, Briley and Carsten Reeder, Maddox Blackard, Audria and William Parham, Colton Blackard, and Thomas Skidgel.

Mrs. Blackard is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Kenneth and Herbert Jones; and a very dear son-in-law, Phil Edward Easley, Sr.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2015, from 5-7 p.m., at the Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville, Arkansas.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville, Arkansas, with Reverend Amos Pledger officiating and Dean Castleberry assisting.

Burial will follow in the Hickey Cemetery off Highway 359 and County Road 2740.

Lee Blackard, Will Blackard, Tod Higby, Jeshua Reeder, Thomas Parham, John Blackard Jr., and Phil Easley Jr. will be serving as pallbearers.
