OBIT

U.S. Army Veteran Charles Leo McConnell, 80, of Aurora, Arkansas, died August 25, 2012 at his home. He was born June 14, 1932 at Aurora, Arkansas, the son of Claud and Alma Whorton McConnell. He was life-long farmer on his farm in Aurora, where he had dairy and beef cattle, turkeys, pigs and goats. He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church, a board member of the Aurora Cemetery and an active member and past commander of Hayes-Smith Post #137, American Legion at Huntsville where he served for fifty-seven years. One of his greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James McConnell and Cotton McConnell.

Survivors include: his wife of fifty-nine years, Carolyn Stroud McConnell of the home; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Arvel McConnell and Marty McConnell, both of Aurora, Arkansas, Rocky and Janice McConnell of Littleton, Colorado; one daughter, Dianna McConnell of Aurora, Arkansas; one grandson and his significant other, Joey McConnell and Stacy Messenger of Springdale, Arkansas; two granddaughters and husbands, Brandi and Marvin Solozano of Huntsville, Arkansas and Corrie and J. R. Lievsay of Manassas Park, Virginia and one great-grandson, Jackson Lievsay of Manassas Park, Virginia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, September 1, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with The Reverends Glen Faulkner and Jimmy Allen officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: Rocky McConnell, Joey McConnell, Marty McConnell, Marvin Solozano, J. R. Lievsay and Lanny McConnell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Hayes-Smith Post #137, American Legion. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. on Friday at the funeral home.
