Bernard Charles Werner, age 93, of Clarksville, died on Friday, June 22, 2018, at his home.

He was born March 31, 1925, in Clarksville, AR, to the late John Henry Werner and Bernadine (Mertens) Werner.

He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Clarksville. Bernard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served during World War II in Saipan until 1946. He returned to Clarksville to work at the family business, Sunny Side Truck Stop. In 1958 he served as Postmaster of the Clarksville Post Office until his retirement in 1990. Bernard and his wife Pete were the owners and operators of the Dairy King Restaurant from 1970 – 1980. Bernard was a valued staff member of the Johnson County Historical Society, Heritage Center and Museum. He loved to share his vast knowledge of Clarksville, its citizens and local history and lore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernadine (Peterson) Werner; his brothers, William, John and Francis Werner; his sisters, Mildred Huhner, Lillian Coor, Josephine Werner, Mary Lorfing and his daughter-in-law Janet (Smith) Werner.

Survivors include his children, John (Gwen) Werner, Thomas Werner, Marian (Billy) Dickerson, Frederick Werner, Therese (Tim) Weick, Celeste (David) Querdibitty, George (Lori) Werner, Constance (Fred) Holloway and Stacie (Leo) Schuele; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family is grateful for the love and care were shown to Bernard in recent years by his caregivers Melissa Mayfield, Caralenea Chesser, Frankie Morgan and Madison Tate with a special Thank You to the wonderful Arkansas Hospice nurses and staff.

Rosary service will be Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation at 6:30 at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville.

Funeral Mass will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2018, with Father William Wewer, OSB officiating. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in Clarksville, AR.

Pallbearers are grandsons Michael, Chris and Greg Dickerson, Jonathon and Daniel Querdibitty, Alex Weick, Tyler Holloway and Brad McIntosh.

Honorary pallbearers are members of The Lone Pine Rook Consortium & Social Club.

Bernadine L. (Pete) Peterson Werner, 81, of Clarksville died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at her home.

She was born in Staples, Minn., and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Society.

Survivors include her husband of 57-plus years, Bernard C. Werner; four sons, Dr. John Werner and wife, Gwen, of Alma, Dr. Thomas Werner and wife, Teri, of Russellville, Fred Werner and wife, Janet, of Russellville and George Werner and wife, Lori, of Clarksville; five daughters, Marian Dickerson and husband, Billy, and Therese Weick and husband, Tim, all of Clarksville, Celeste Querdibitty and husband, David, of Maumelle, Constance Holloway and husband, Fred, of Altus, and Stacia Schuele and husband, Leon, of Littleton, Colo.; three sisters, Lorraine Tepel, Irene Heaver and Mildred Wilm, all of St. Paul, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation and rosary were at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was at 5 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father William Wewer officiating. Burial was in Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Dickerson, Chris Dickerson, Greg Dickerson, Jonathon Querdibitty, Daniel Querdibitty, and Tyler Holloway.
