The sixth of eight children born to James & Almira (Dyer) Hardgrave of Williamson Co TN, John was called by his middle name Davis. He married my daughters' 3rd paternal Gr-Grand Aunt, Virginia Armstrong, on 5 Feb 1837 in Williamson Co TN, daughter of William & Alianna (Hill) Armstrong, of Franklin, Williamson Co TN.

Children with Virginia:
1) Sarah "Sallie" Ann Hardgrave (1838-1871), m: Lieut William B Smedley.
2) James William Hardgrave (1839-1839)
3) Elizabeth Frances Hardgrave (1842-1917), m1: Thomas James Payne, m2: Dr Charles "Charley" P Clark.
4) Virginia Tennessee Hardgrave (1844-1844)
5) John Davis "JD" Hardgrave Jr (1846-1882), m: Cynthia Sophrina Ogden.
6) Almira "Ala" Hardgrave (1848-1931), never married.

Davis was a farmer by trade.

November 9, 1814 - July 25, 1878

The youngest of ten children born to William & Alianna "Aly Ann" (Hill) Armstrong of Franklin, Williamson Co TN, Virginia married John Davis Hardgrave on 5 Feb 1837 in Williamson Co TN, son of James & Almira (Dyer) Hardgrave of Williamson Co TN.

Virginia and Davis relocated to Johnson Co AR, bought farmland and had at least six children, two sons and four daughters. In both 1850 and 1860 they resided in Horsehead Creek Twp in Johnson Co AR. By the 1870 Census, the family had moved to Grant Twp in Clarksville, also in Johnson Co AR.
