*Obituary
H.E. Harvey was born October 27, 1922 in the Stone Hill Community, near Clarksville, Arkansas.
Howard Elwin (H.E.) was the son of St. Elmo Harvey and Norma Hudson Harvey of Johnson County, Arkansas.
He attended Stone Hill School, Woodland School, and Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Minnesota. His CCC service included bridge construction and production of waterway infrastructure systems.
In November of 1942, he volunteered for the United States Army.
Upon completion of Basic Military training at Keesler Army Airfield in Biloxi, Mississippi, he went on to other training stations at Chanute Air Base in Illinois- as well as California, New Jersey, and New York.
In October of 1943, as a member of the U.S. Army 8th Army Air Force, 401st Bomber Group, 614th Bombardment Squadron, he and his fellow troops made their way to the European Theatre of World War II, aboard the ship USS Dorothea L. Dix (Ap-67).
Arriving in Scotland, he was transferred to Base Air Depot One (U.S Army Air Force Station 590) Burtonwood Air Field near Chesire, England. His primary assignment was the servicing of American planes with a focus on the B-24 Bombers. The Allied base, like many sites, was host to ongoing enemy aerial raids and bombings.
In 1944, upon completion of his wartime service, he returned home with the rank of Corporal. In 1947, he married June Belle Harris.
Like many of their generation, they traveled west and on to California for work. During their stay in the West, they worked in agriculture and production. Later, they returned to Johnson County and purchased the “family home,” which had been acquired by his grandfather in 1900.
He worked with his father, family members, and local farmers in production, harvesting, and livestock operations.
He and June were the parents to George Elwin, Larry Eston, the late David Elmo, the late Thomas Leon, the late Debbie Sue, Judy Marilyn, Betty Jean, the late Ruby Francis, and Ricky Lynn.
In 1977, June went to be with the Lord. Some seven years later, he befriended the now late Virginia Seaton of Mt. Ida, Arkansas. For the next 20 years, they lived a shared story of adventure, family, travel, and companionship.
He loved family, friends, pets, an ever-growing list of pen-pals, as well as Johnson County and the world. In addition to having a great sense of humor, he loved history, current events, reading, sports, supporting underdogs, teaching, daily trips to Wal-Mart and the Vinson Center, as well as checking on the daily activities of his loved ones. Starting in the 1960s, he wrote a large number of Editorial Letters and articles, as published in state newspapers, national magazines, historic publications, and books.
His adventurous spirit, along with his handwritten letters and notes as well as his acceptance of Christ as his Savior, will always be remembered and celebrated by his family and special friends.
In addition to his wife and children, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John L.; and a sister, Pat Webb. He is survived by brothers, K.P. and H.W.; and sisters, Shirley Hicks and Polly Padgett; as well as daughters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his dog, PD Jr.
Service Pallbearers: Lindy Paul Harvey, Jimmy Don Harvey, Ben Harris, Jeff Hicks, Matthew Webb, and David Webb.
