Calvary Cemetery
Garland County,
Arkansas

October 4, 1939 - March 29, 2016

Faye I. Horner, age 76, passed away Tuesday March 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born at Point Cedar in Hot Spring County, Arkansas. She was a child who read every book she could get her hands on and remained an avid reader her entire life. She especially loved the historical novels of Catherine Cookson, whose descriptions of life in North East England never ceased to captivate her. Faye graduated from Bismarck High School and went on to become the first person in her family to graduate from college. She began teaching elementary school in Bryant at age 19 while still a student at Henderson State Teachers College. It was during her college years in Arkadelphia that she met her husband of 55 years, John C. Horner. When her children were small, Faye studied at night and during summer breaks to earn her Masters degree in early childhood education from Henderson. She enjoyed passing on her love of reading to her students, her children and her grandchildren. She retired from Gardner Elementary School in 1999 after a long career in the Hot Springs School District. Faye and John enjoyed a retirement filled with gardening, travel and family. Their favorite weekend destinations included Queen Wilhelmina State Park, Mount Magazine State Park, and Eureka Springs. Always the teacher, Faye loved taking her grandchildren on educational trips to National Historic Sites such as Fort Smith in northwest Arkansas and the Lincoln Home in Springfield, Illinois. Faye is survived by her devoted husband; children Elizabeth (David) Cwik, Nancy Horner, Jane (Jim) Kellstrom and John C. (Jordan) Horner III; and six grandchildren: Olivia Kellstrom, William Kellstrom, Isaac Cwik, Isabel Cwik, Raegan Hickam, and Harper Horner. Her sisters, Joyce Allen and Carolyn Holcomb, her brother David Ivy and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. Her parents, Lee Edna and Clinton Ivy, and her brother Carmey Ivy predeceased her.Mom, you will be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt, but especially as a mother who always put her family first and showered her children with love and caring.
