Cannon Eugene Cornett, 84, a longtime resident of the Okanogan Valley, passed away on Aug, 11, 2020, in Addy, Wash., due to complications from diabetes.

Carmon was born in Huntsville on Sept 25, 1935, the son of Frank and Dalphia (Bowman) Cornett.

His early years were spent in Huntsville where he also attended school. At the age of 14, Carmon began traveling to the Chelan Valley of Washington where he worked in the orchards.

He later met Carol Burdick and the exchanged vows in Huntsville, in February of 1954. There they began a family and soon moved to Malott, Wash., where he began a career in the cattle industry.

They purchased "the farm" in the mid 1960's which was a larger cattle ranch in the Okanogan Valley. There he operated a mobile slaughter business, raised cattle, hay and was active in the community.

Carmon was also the cattle buyer for the Shank Sr Peck Cattle Company and Ferry Brothers. On April 15, 2005, Carol preceded him in death. Carmon then retired and eventually moved to Addy, Wash., where he could be closer to his family.

He was man devoted to his family, motor cross racing with his son, Kevin, coaching little league, supporting his boys throughout the education including college and sharing in many outdoor adventures with them. This dedication carried on to his grandchildren often to a point of "spoilage". He was joker and loved to share stories with friends and family. Carmon placed a great value in all of his relationships, family and friendships.

He was an avid pinochle player and played every Wednesday for over 50 years.

Carmon was also longtime volunteer in the Okanogan County Sheriff's Posse.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dalphia; brothers, Carl and Clayton Cornett; and a sister, Freda Cornett.

Carmon is survived by his sons, Mike Cornett of Addy, Wash., Richard Cornett of Addy, Wash., and Kevin Cornett of Okanogan, Wash.; brothers, Clint Cornett of Prairie Grove, Ark., Kenneth Cornett of Huntsville, Keith Cornett of Harrison, Ark., Gary Cornett of Huntsville, and Jimmy Cornett of Huntsville; sisters, Thelma Hill of Huntsville, Wash., Stella Harp of Huntsville, and Linda Sparks and Robin Umland of Huntsville; grandchildren, Ryan Cornett of Chewelah, Wash., Karolan Cornett, Erin Cornett and Chris Cornett of Okanogan; great-grandchildren, Trey Cornett of Chewelah, Wash., and Kay Lily of Okanogan, Wash.

There will be a family gathering for Mr. Carmon Cornett and private family ash burial in Huntsville at a later date.
