Thomas Clinton Newton Sr., 90, of Cornerville (Lincoln County), died Sunday at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born May 4, 1919 in Cornerville to the late Homer F. and Lois Farmer Newton.
He was involved in various business enterprises including farming and logging.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Belle Baldwin Newton; brother, Ewell Newton; and 4 sisters, Maurine Collins, Lavonne Slayden, Suedell Branscomb, Marguerite Newton.
Survivors include 2 sons, Thomas Clinton Newton Jr. and wife Betty Jean, Joe Lynn Newton and wife Jane, all of Cornerville; daughter, Audrey Ann Newton Lovette and husband Scott of Benton; 3 sisters, Oneita Sowrheaver of Little Rock, Lanell Morgan of Monticello, Jean Carolyn May of Greenbrier; 5 grandchildren, Kay Wood, Timmy Newton, Steve Newton, Jennifer Craft, Randy Newton; and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City. Bro. Josh Dutton and Bro. Wayne Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Newton Chapel Cemetery at Cornerville. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dwight Winningham, Frank Wilson, Mike Gill, Robert Knight, JT Ross, Glen Hendrix, Bobby Woodyard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Smith and Wayne Jordan.
